The folders in that list, and the files within them will then be directly accessible by your console. Step 9: Select as many folders as you want and add them to the list of shared folders. Select the “Navigation/Share Settings” tab and click on the green plus sign, underneath the Shared Folders heading. Step 8: Now, it is time to choose the folders containing the files on your computer that you wish to access on your PS3.
If it doesn’t show up after a minute or so, navigate to the video tab on your PS3 menu and select “Search for Media Servers” to ensure that your computer and Playstation 3 are connected. Step 7: Once the PS3 Media Server detects your Playstation console, a picture of the PS3 will show up in the main window, as shown below. When the following window pops up, press open.
It won’t have the PS3 icon at the moment, but go ahead and click on it anyway. Step 6: Locate the PS3 Media Server icon in your Applications folder. This ensures that it will be recognized by the media server program once it is opened. Step 5: Turn on your PS3 and just leave it on the home screen.
Click and drag the icon that looks like a Playstation 3 into the “Applications” folder to install it. Step 4: A new window will open up that looks like the one below. It will be named “pms-macosx-1.20.409-BETA.dmg” by default. After its done, locate it in your downloads folder, and open up the file. Step 3: Once you click on “Download Now”, the download will start immediately.
This is the software we will use to get the job done. Step 2: Download PS3 Media Server for Mac. Step 1: The basics – you need an Apple computer (obviously), a PS3 (obviously again), a wireless router, and an internet connection. I just wanted to add some reason to all the 'why would you want to do that?' posts. That’s why I have put together this how-to that guides you through the process of streaming your media library from your Mac to Playstation 3. It works well, so I feel no need to use another system.Īnyway, I think the answer has already been provided. I also have two PS3's that receive media from the server. New server location should allow a doubling of quality to all devices. I'm about to buy a Pi to attach to the kids TV (RaspBMC) so I can relocate the server and other hardware to a more central location (ATM the server is attached to their TV in the family room at the back of the house, all the other devices that receive video are at the front of the house). I have considered ethernet over mains adapters as a maybe, depending on how bad things are in the next house. We can't install ethernet in this house since it isn't ours, and my wife won't allow blue cables running everywhere.
I have used Android WiFi analyser to choose a vacant channel. The house we are currently is so bad for streaming via WiFi, my LG TV cannot DLNA to my server and PMS is the only way I can control the quality down to allow sensible playback, even over wireless N.
Using PMS to transcode the file on the fly and transmit a slightly degraded quality allows fluid video streaming. Passing through walls/floors via WiFi can cause constant stream pauses. If you stream the media in its original format, the file may be huge. One of my favourite things to do is to tune the quality settings in PMS to suit the structure of the house I live in when we have to move (my job requires relocation every couple of years). I think people are missing the point of PMS in this situation. If you're finished with pointless posting/trolling.maybe spend more time trying to help the guy (Like I am) rather than questioning people's method of understanding the problem. PS3 Media Server isn't exactly amazing.there are tons of software just like it.
So he mentions it being "Up a floor taped to the PC".then goes on to say the "PC downstairs.".Does it not sound like he has a PC "up a floor" and a PC "downstairs" to you? I can only blame the confusing and poorly worded original post.įor example "The Pi will be up a floor taped to the back of the pc, the plan is to have Raspbmc connect to the pc downstairs, which will transcode the video file i request and stream it back to the Pi" Why would he be asking this question if he had another computer next to his Television, come on now.
